GoFundMe for Baer's new kidney!

Hosted by Ron Morris - Baer’s Papa

Meet Baer

He’s my Little Warrior…

He’s my First Grandson…
He's our Kidney Kid...

He’s 11 months old… and we are all so in love with him!

Baer was born with Prune-Belly syndrome, also known as Eagle-Barrett syndrome, a complication of this is Chronic Kidney Disease. During his first weeks of life he was initially staged at Stage 3 and has since progressed to End Stage Renal Failure. This means he is in need of a life saving kidney transplant.

Our family has been fortunate to have Dell Children's Medical Center located in Austin where Baer and his parents live. He spent the first 35 days of his life in their NICU under their watchful eyes. Since that initial stay and the following hospitalizations, Baer, Mallory and Keith have developed close relationships with Dell's Nephrology and Urology teams where his Chronic Kidney Disease and overall Prune Belly Syndrome is being treated. With a medically complex child it is extremely important to have a close and trusting relationship with their care team.

On April 5th, 2022, Dell Children's Medical Center announced the opening of their Pediatric Abdominal Transplant Center, and our family rejoiced! Before this opening, families in central Texas would have to travel to San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston to receive care. This means Baer will be able to have his transplant surgery in Austin with his medical teams that we have bonded with and family and friends nearby as a support system leading up to, during, and after his surgery.

Take a moment and watch the announcement in this recent story CBS News in Austin Texas did featuring Baer’s and his quest for a new set of kidneys. You’ll meet Baer, his Mom and Dad (my daughter Mallory and son-in-law Keith), the surgeon and the amazing Dell Children’s Medical Center where Baer is planning on receiving this transplant procedure.

Our prayer, as a family is that God will continue to reveal himself to us through your prayers, good-wishes (Lord knows we need them) and kindly, your investment in our little Baer’s life!

We are in a place of needing some assistance to help with Baer's medical bills and related expenses. Because of the newness of the Pediatric Abdominal Transplant program, they are running into issues with insurance coverage. With the limited help of insurance, the costs of all the appointments, imaging, and medications leading up to the procedure, the surgery itself, and all the post op care and medications are astronomical. Both Mallory and Keith are doing their best to work through this challenging time, but are needing to take time off work for his doctors appointments, diagnostic procedures and ultimately the surgery which will all lead to lost wages on top of expensive gas bills (even though its in the same city!), and have to rely on fast food or others for meals in between appointments and during the hospital stay.

The $50,000 goal we have set is to assist with Baer’s current medical bills, the Kidney Transplant surgery, and related expenses to help them manage to stay afloat. In the event of a successful fundraising campaign, donations over and above our goal will go towards Baer's future medical needs as he will most likely need 3-4 transplants through his life.

Thank you all in advance for your support and participation in Baer’s journey for a new kidney - whatever form in may take,

We accept it as a further expression of God’s love for us, both big and small.

In the meantime I think we can all agree… this guy’s a little warrior!

Become Baer’s kidney donor

Want to give the gift of life? Find out how!

We know, we know, this is an intimidating thought. But, you only need 1 kidney after all! So isn’t it kind of selfish to hog your spare? JUST KIDDING! Seriously, no pressure - we just use dark humor to cope at times.

Did you know that there is an increase in the longevity and effectiveness of a kidney transplant based on if it came from a living donor or a deceased donor?

As May 11th, 2023 Baer was officially accepted into the Texas Children’s Hospital Transplant Program in Houston. It has been a rollercoaster since finding out that he would not be able to receive his transplant at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, though after meeting with the TCH Houston team we are thrilled for Baer to receive this life saving care there.

The next step is for us to find a Living Donor Match for Baer. Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston is the adult donor program matched with TCH. The testing and coordinator for living donors will be done through their coordinator, Jane DeLeon. Below is her contact information if you would like to take the step to hopefully become Baer’s hero.

We only get one lifetime on this earth, why not help someone live their best life and give the gift of a life saving kidney. Plus, how cool is it to say that you were part of a positive change in this ever darkening world?

Below is the contact information for the adult Living Donor Coordinator. You will need to mention that you are wanting to donate for Baer Sobieralski.
