Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
Living with Chronic Kidney Disease
Very simply put, chronic kidney disease means your kidneys cannot function properly and therefore inhibit major bodily functions such as filtering toxins from the blood, regulating certain hormones, controlling blood pressure, and controlling the production of red blood cells, etc. There are 5 stages to CKD numbered 1 - 5 with 5 being termed as End Stage Renal Failure. This final stage can be managed with dialysis or a kidney transplant and otherwise will result in death.
